2.3 Age. The hose shall be manufactured not more than thirty two calendar quarters (8 years) priopr to date of delivery to the Government.
2.4 Length. Unless otherwise specified (see 5.2), bulk hose shall be furnished in lengths of 13.7 meters (m) (45 feet) or longer except that not more than 25 percent may be furnished in lengths between 7.6 m (25 feet) and 12.4 m (44 feet) and not more than an additional 25 percent may be furnished in lengths between 4.6 m (15 feet) and 7.3 m (24 feet).
2.5 Size. The size of the hose shall conform to SAE J517 series 100R4 (see 5.2).
2.6 Identification and marking. Identification and marking shall be in accordance with SAE J517. In addition, type II hose shall have the maximum operating temperature of 250°F appropriately identified and marked.
2.7 Workmanship. Workmanship shall be in accordance with the manufacture a high quality hose. This shall be evidenced by the absence of defects detrimental to hose serviceability or appearance, such as, hose shall be clean and free from oil, grease, dirt, or other foreign material, both internally and externally.
3.0 Quality Assurance Provisions.
3.1 Responsibility for inspection. The contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspections (examinations and tests).
3.2 Contractor certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and except for those government unique requirements specified, conforms to the producers’ own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace or that had successfully been delivered to the government on a previous contract or purchase order. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
4.0 Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order (see 5.2).

5.1.1 Non-Government publications. SAE J517 “Hydraulic Hose”, is available from the Society of Automotive Engineers, 400 Commonwealth Drive, Warrendale, PA 15096.
5.2 Ordering data. Acquisition documents must specify the following:
a. Title, number, and date of this CID.
b. Length of hose, when a specific length is required (see 2.4).
c. Size of hose required (see 2.5).
d. Issue of the DODISS to be cited in the solicitation, and if required, the specific issue of individual documents referenced (see 5.1.1).
e. Selection of applicable level and packaging requirements (see 4.0).
